PRUNEDALE AND MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. — Families across Monterey County have a free education resource worth knowing about: Monterey County Free Libraries announced in August 2026 that Homework CA offers online tutoring to students in kindergarten through 12th grade, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The service is intended to make academic support more accessible to families who cannot easily travel to a tutoring center or pay for private lessons. For residents of rural communities, online access can be particularly useful, provided they have a suitable device and internet connection.
Who can use the program?
The county’s August 7 announcement describes the program as free online tutoring for K–12 students. Families should consult the library’s current instructions for eligibility, subjects, languages, account requirements and how to connect to a tutor. The announcement should not be taken as a guarantee that every subject or language has an immediately available tutor at every hour.
Where to start
Visit the Monterey County Free Libraries website and look for Homework CA or online learning resources. Library staff can help families understand the available services and access instructions.

Families who would rather visit a library can also use Monterey County Free Libraries’ Student Support Centers. The county lists free access to computers, Wi-Fi, learning resources, limited school supplies and online tutors via Homework CA and Brainfuse. Published in-person support center hours include:
- Prunedale: 17822 Moro Road, Wednesdays and Fridays, 3–5 p.m.; (831) 796-3080.
- Castroville: 11160 Speegle Street, Tuesdays 3–6 p.m., Wednesdays 2–6 p.m., Thursdays 2:30–5:30 p.m.; (831) 769-8724.

The library branch hours above are in-person Student Support Center hours, not a limitation on the 24/7 online tutoring described earlier. They may change for holidays or staffing; check the county’s live page or telephone the branch before visiting.
